Facebook drops Fan Pages for Liking a page. Below I have relayed the source. Check it out. Then tell me what YOU think here –> What do you think of the new Like button on Facebook Pages?
Why did “Become a Fan” change to “Like”?
To improve your experience and promote consistency across the site, we’ve changed the language for Pages from
“Fan” to “Like.” We believe this change offers you a more light-weight and standard way to connect with people, things and topics in which you are interested.
What does it mean to “Like” a Page?
When you click “Like” on a Page, you are making a connection to that Page. The Page will be displayed in your profile, and in turn, you will be displayed on the Page as a person who likes that Page. The Page will also be able to post content into your News Feed.
Can I still “Like” a News Feed story about my friends Liking Pages?
No. When you see a Feed story about a friend Liking a Page, there will be no feedback links below that story. However, if you hover over the Page name, you will see a small preview of the Page and the number of other people who have also Liked that Page. You can then Like that Page to add it to your profile, or you can click through to the Page itself.
Is there a difference between “Liking” an item a friend posts and “Liking” a Page?
Yes. Liking a Page means you are connecting to that Page. When you connect to a Page, it will appear in your profile and you will appear on the Page as a person who likes that Page. The Page will also be able to post content into your News Feed.
On the other hand, when you click “Like” on a piece of content that a friend posts, you are simply letting your friend know that you like it without leaving a comment.

Clifton,
I’m wondering what impact this will have on Social Media. Will this turn Fan Pages into sites with less weight and presence? Steep learning curve here.
Thanks for the heads-up,
Val

Thanks for writing this Clifton. I think a lot of people will not have any idea of what they are actually signing up for when they click “Like”. They won’t know that all of those things can happen and they could be surprised. It is really helpful to have this notice in case you come on a page that you don’t want to continue with. Now you’ll know not to click like even if you did like it.
For some reason the comment box keeps putting up last week’s blog.

Hey Clifton… Great post!
Facebook can be a little confusing to navigate at times… it seems that everything is always in a constant state of flux.
You’ve made it a little easier to understand the “why’s” behind FB’s change of format and the thinking that drives these type of revisions.
Thanks for sharing this info… explaining is one thing, you made it clear.

Hi Clifton,
The liking button is definitely going to help us with ‘fan pages’ have more people following us. It seems like much less of a commitment for people to like something rather than ‘become a fan’
I just wrote a quick post about this here:
http://www.gavinmountford.com/facebook-marketing-secrets/do-you-like-my-new-fan-page-what-does-it-mean/
It’s definitely an interesting move on Facebook’s part, and one that I feel will have more people liking more pages.
We, as page owners will have more exposure because of this so it’s a win win situation for all.
‘I like it’ :-)
Hi Clifton,
I agree with what Gavin wrote above. I think now that FB has changed its parameters related to our business pages, the potential to get more exposure for what we do is greater.
Having just set up my FB business page, I missed the whole “fan” era and will only know the “like” going forward.
Thanks for your explanations and insights into these techie things!

Hello Andy and welcome to my blog. I appreciate you stopping by for some information.
After creating a Facebook Page, visit the Page and click on the Suggest To Friends link under the Page photo. From there, you will be able to select which friends you would like to send an invite to ‘Like’ your page. Once they have liked you page, you will be able to deliver great content to them through Facebook notifications.
I am working on a video tutorial for this as well. I hope that helps! Thanks again
Clifton
