That thing called Facebook
So you’ve been hearing about that thing on the web where everyone is hanging out called Facebook, more than 700 billion minutes per month on this social networking site. You’ve been told that even as a small business owner you should have a Facebook Page to reach out to your customers, generate more leads, and build your client list.
Listening to everyone, you leap into the world of social media and create a Facebook Page for your business but now what? What should you have on your Page? How often should you publish updates? How do you reach out to the people who Like your page? And what about the difference between a Facebook Profile and a Facebook Page?
Your Facebook Page should contain minimum of all of these things.
Links to your blog posts. People enjoy reading fresh content. Blogging is the perfect way to offer the fresh content that people crave. Writing a blog post about your upcoming sale or event then posting the link onto your Facebook Page will encourage people to read and visit your Page on a regular basis while looking for new updates.
Linking to related articles. Linking to related articles about your industry or something your readers will enjoy will mark you as a great source for information. It doesn’t matter if you wrote the articles or not. It’s not about who writes the content but who delivers them to the reader.
Publish Videos. Video websites are booming right now and more people are turning to the web to watch their favorite television shows or find the funniest viral clip. Publishing videos on your Facebook Page help build brand awareness and have that personal touch that people can get right from home. Video testimonials are pure gold.
Upload Photos. Photos of your business, staff, offices, and product or service let potential customers learn more about your business before ever picking up the phone or stopping by your ‘brick and mortar.’ Have an event at your business? Tag your employees and customers. People LOVE to see themselves and friends tagged in photos.
These are four elements that are essential to getting people to ‘Like’ your Facebook Page which will contribute to your page’s overall success. Get people to interact with your Page, read your Page, comment on your Page which will lead to them migrating from Facebook to your website or blog and to purchasing your product or service.

Hey Clifton,
I think you can count mind-reader in with your many talents! This series is just what I have needed! I use Facebook for my business, but have been feeling that I needed a more organized strategy. Sorry, no more time to comment! Off to Part 2! LOL!
Mentor Mama
Mentor Mama! Thank you. I have been working with a great group of local entrepreneurs and showing them how to utilize Facebook for their business. I was inspired to write this short series as an additional reference for them. I am thankful that others are benefiting from it as well. Thanks :)
