For most of us, our blog is an essential part of our business so it would only make sense to make sure it is as secure as possible. Here are a few tips that I have compiled to help you keep your WordPress blog secure.
Update your WordPress Blog
All websites are vulnerable to attacks, hacks, and cracks. Security holes will always be found and hackers will be there to exploit them as soon as they appear. The absolute best way to combat these issues is to keep your blog up-to-date with the latest released version. Often the WordPress developers will patch the holes once the threat is found and release it in a new update. Many outdated WordPress blogs were infected with attacks last September only because they didn’t take the time to upgrade their software.
Since WordPress 2.7, bloggers are notified when a new upgrade is made available right from their back office. The automatic updates can be as simple as a single click of a button. So log into your back office right now, go to Tools > Upgrade and see if you have an upgrade waiting for you! The most current stable version is 2.9.2. Leaving your site on an old version is like keeping your door unlocked when you leave for vacation.

No software system is immune to bugs and vulnerabilities. Security holes will be discovered and bad guys will do their best to exploit them. Keeping your software up-to-date is a good way to stave off attacks, because reliable software vendors will fix their products once security holes are found.

Thanks Bill. So many people fall victim to viruses and hackers because they do not take a little time to update your software and blog. If they are using WordPress blog, they can automatically update their blog with just a single click! And I know that the Empowered Blogs Theme comes with the additional secret key security feature.

Clifton my man! Great stuff here. I don’t know if I told you but I had my blogged hacked about a month ago. This is cool! Thanks for sharing buddy!
Clifton,
So important for people to understand the need for security. . .Internet terrorists abound!
If I may offer this insight. Failing to update one’s blog security software is not like leaving the home unlocked when you go on vacation — it is much worse!!!
For most of us, our blog is not only our portal to the world, it is also the hub of all our business activities.
So, failing to upgrade this all important software is akin to leaving the bank vault open to anyone who happens to drop by. . .not a very good idea!
Thanks for all the insights,
Joe
